Prague has a very efficient public transport system consisting of the metro, trams, and buses. The historic center is best explored on foot, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes because of the cobblestone streets. For longer distances, we highly recommend downloading the official PID Lítačka app, which allows you to plan routes and easily purchase tickets.
For convenient and reliable transport, it is best to use ride-hailing apps like Uber or Bolt. It is generally advised to avoid taking unofficial street taxis, especially around major tourist areas.
Street parking is available but is regulated by paid parking zones. You can easily pay for parking via the PID Lítačka app or at street parking meters. Always check the local street signs for restrictions, such as resident-only zones or maximum parking times, to avoid fines or towing.
The official currency is the Czech Crown (CZK). Card payments are widely accepted almost everywhere in Prague, but it is still useful to carry a little bit of cash for small purchases.
Yes, Prague is generally very safe. However, as in any major tourist destination, you should keep an eye on your belongings and be aware of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas or on public transport.
Most major sights are within walking distance of each other. You shouldn’t miss Prague Castle (with St. Vitus Cathedral), Charles Bridge, and the Old Town Square featuring the famous Astronomical Clock. For beautiful panoramic views and a relaxing atmosphere, visit Vyšehrad or Petřín Hill.
Prague offers plenty of shopping options. Right in the city center, you will find the popular Palladium mall. Other major shopping centers further from the center include Westfield Chodov, Nový Smíchov, and Galerie Harfa.
Prague has a vibrant dining scene.
••Brunch & Cafés: For excellent coffee and brunch, visit Café Fin, Eska, Můj šálek kávy, or The Miners.
